Native Plants for smaller gardens

Here are some ideas for native plants that provide colour and interest in smaller gardens. Some places to visit to see a range of native plants are Cranbourne and Melton Botanic Gardens. The Hoffman Walk at Lara is also worth a visit. In spring there will be a number of native flower shows, that showcase what grows well in local gardens. Lookout for the Pomonal and Ballarat events.

Decorative Lettuces

We always have a few varieties of lettuces growing and some are left to go to seed. I usually buy the $2 packets at the Reject Shop, just sprinkle them in the garden, and leave it up to them as to where they grow. I collect some seed at the end of the season. The ones with blotches is a variety of Diggers Seeds and called something like ‘flashy trout back’.
