Gorse Bitter-pea, Daviesia ulicifolia is a very prickly shrub. Some people would shy away from having prickly plants in the garden but it depends what you want them for and where you plant them. Sometimes they are good to direct people away from an area or stop people taking short cuts.
I like them to provide protection for small birds which don’t seem to mind a few sharp points if they are escaping from bigger birds. Gorse Bitter-pea also has lots of yellow and reddish-brown flowers. It may be found growing in in local bushland in several areas around Ballarat.
