Riberry with hot pink new growth

Sometimes a plant sits happily in the background doing its own thing and then you suddenly come across it again and think perhaps I should have planted that in a more prominent place. Riberry or Syzygium lehmannii is one such plant as the new growth is quite stunning.

It was purchased as the fruit can be eaten fresh or made into jam but also as the plant is useful as hedging plant and attracts birds to its white flowers. Hopefully this species won’t get the distorted new growth to which some Syzygiums seem prone.
