Flowers on leaf stems!

Acacia glaucoptera

Acacia glaucoptera

The Clay Wattle, Acacia glaucoptera, is an interesting, very ornamental wattle. I find it hard to grow but I saw a magnificent specimen in the Geelong Botanic Gardens, perhaps it likes a slightly warmer climate.

This wattle has phyllodes which are stems or stalks of leaves which are modified to act as leaves and the flowers appear along the phyllode.
